Galena, a mother living in Donetsk, Ukraine, discovered that she was HIV-positive in her sixth month of pregnancy. At the time, she felt incapable of caring for a child. She shared a two-room apartment with her parents and siblings without space for a cradle, the baby’s father had left her when he discovered she was HIV-positive, and the demands of ARV therapy forced her to quit her job.
