Letter From the Executive Director: Leaving An Impact
DOW Executive Director Thomas Dougherty reflects on DOW’s focus on developing sustainable solutions by building the capacity of communities to sustain, implement, and replicate programs long after DOW participation has ended.

DOW works closely with communities to establish solutions that endure long after crises end. Our Women’s Wellness Centers in Kosovo, developed by 2003 well after the 1999 conflict, continue to serve women but are now under full administration of the Kosovo Ministry of Health.

DOW recently transferred full control of our Ukraine MAMA+ project for HIV-positive women at risk of abandoning their children to a local NGO and key partner, evincing our dedication to capacity building and sustainable solutions.

DOW’s durable solutions building access to health services span the globe.

An interview with Dr. Svetlana Suvorova, former DOW employee and current Executive Director of the St. Petersburg-based NGO Doctors To Children, DOW’s main partner in projects for street and at-risk children and youth.

Updates and highlights from DOW projects around the world.

An interview with Wharton MBA students who visited DOW’s Partnership for Maternal & Neonatal Health in August to make recommendations for increasing utilization of health services by women in the rural West and North Pokot.

DOW celebrated the launch of its Partnership for Maternal and Neonatal Health in Kenya with a ceremony on September 5, 2007, attended by local partners, members of the West Pokot community, and DOW and USAID staff.

A recap of the 2007 Health and Human Rights Leadership Awards and the 11th Annual Golf Classic.

Remarks made by Stephen Lewis, former United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, at the 2007 Health and Human Rights Leadership Awards.
